The Hearts of Reptiles

They are trying to trick me, but whatever game they think we’re playing is over. I know they must have the key now; they could not have made that clear enough. When they insisted that we check Sissis’s belongings for a mere bag with some scribbles on it. They pushed him to a point where he had to defend himself and then nearly killed him for it. When it was revealed that he didn’t have the key (as I was hoping he might) it was obvious that this is a game. But aslong as they are keeping it safe I will allow them to handle it. They don’t know what it does.

After this the ordeal got worse. A pack of deinonychus slaughtered our horse and the last two guardsmen. The jungle is harshest now that it ever has been before and we came upon an abandoned stilt village. We encountered three assassin vines that almost took all of them to their graves, they slayed Sissis in his weakened state, that fool cleric, and that rather rugged halfling. I was lucky enough to be able to evade their detection. After finally ridding the stilt village of the flora threat they managed to reincarnate one of their fallen, the loud one that seems to enjoy playing these pranks so much. Caewylle’s body was never found and I don’t feel they have any mind to help Sissis. They also managed to heal the guidewoman Aiya. I wonder only if they will reveal to her that they have the key. It might not be wise but I feel I must confess myself to them or she’ll have her way with the whole situation. Aiya remains the only constant threat to my livelihood. She obviously has knowledge of the key and as a worshipper of Ubtao is likely to turn me over as a smuggler. Then we’ll all be sent to the maze.

i am surrounded by fools, liars and amateurs

But who is who? Sissis has failed to be of any help. The Drake man claims Sissis is keeping it from me though. We will see what truth there is to his words. Whatever the fools are doing I must make it more clear that I am of no danger to them and mean them no harm. I should not write anymore. They might disover me.

_The rains came and they almost destroyed everything. If it weren’t for that man carrying the chain we’d all be dead along with the rest of them. Whats worse is now I can’t find it and given the care with which I’d taken to put it in its place safely and secretly that means someone must have taken it or it was swept up somehow in the landlside. I have yet to share this information with Sissis(not that he would have any idea what I was talking about or be of any help) but if he becomes aware that I might have failed in another delivery I could be writing my last words.

The only fools that came anywhere near my wagon were Aiya the guide woman and that priest of Oghma, Felonious Drake. Perhaps he knows more than I thought. Either way, I must make some excuse for going back to the wreckage of the other two wagons before I confront anyone. salvage some healing draughts of some kind..yes that might work. They seem intent on keeping the Aiya girl alive so that might spur them to if I act the part of the goody goody.

Whatever happens I must find it! p. My life depends on it._

Storms lie in wait

A motley crew of guards have been selected for a small caravan heading from southern coastal regions to Ishau. It has not rained for days and now the horizon is dark and angry and will make up for lost time with a vengeance. Our hired hands seem to be sufficient for now. None of them put have their nose where it ought not to be. I do feel a certain instinctual anxiety towards the gnome but he doesn’t seem like he’ll be a problem as long as I can keep my own cool. No, I need everything to go smoothly here. Sissis will see to that. That pea brained brute smiles at me behind those teeth, I feel as if they’ve promised a meal of me if I fail. As long as it is kept secret nothing ill will become of me. At least that much can be said of him, his ignorance keeps him mute.

The others are a bunch of foreigners. They’ve all here for something else but they aren’t sharing. Except that one human that carries the chain, he’s familiar and he speaks with the Tashalaran accent a bit. The halfling too maybe but he stinks of calishits. The elf speaks not, he’s here for something else, this just a byway for him. The guide woman seems friendly, she’s got the stupid look on her face of someone who too fervently loves their deity. Ubtao. A deity whose faithful believe that scalyfolk are his children. She probably infatuated with me for my cold blood. She spends too much time near my wagon though and I shouldn’t trust her. The last one of any note is that priest of Oghma. Perhaps he will be of use to me further along. I will have to see.
